Most bathroom renovation overruns are plumbing decisions made too late. Once tiling starts, moving a waste point costs several times what it would have cost on day one.
Decide the fixture layout first. The position of the toilet is the least flexible item, because the soil pipe needs fall and a short run to the stack.
Confirm your water pressure before choosing a shower. A rain head on low pressure produces a disappointing result no matter how good the fitting is.
Plan for isolation valves on every fixture. They cost very little during a renovation and they save a full house shut-off every time a tap needs a washer later.
Agree on where pipework will be concealed and where access will remain. A concealed cistern with no access panel becomes a wall-breaking job at the first fault.
